The syllabus

This course is designed to help you consolidate and advance your proficiency across all four skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) while improving your ability to express complex ideas naturally and effectively. Each cycle is built around broad themes that unfold into smaller, interconnected topics, allowing for in-depth exploration and meaningful discussion.

We work with a variety of authentic materials to:

  • expose you to natural, high-level input and sharpen your comprehension and critical thinking skills;

  • help you recognize patterns, collocations, and common chunks that help you sound more polished and precise;

  • push you to develop a richer, more versatile vocabulary and a richer repertoire of ideas;

  • provide regular practice in discussing, analyzing, and responding to advanced content.

Our lexical focus ensures that your learning is practical and memorable, helping you notice and internalize natural phrasing and express your ideas with greater clarity and impact. The syllabus remains flexible and responsive, adjusting as we identify areas for growth throughout the course.

What I offer

Authentic: I make use of authentic materials in my lessons. These are texts which have been written in English for speakers of the language. These materials connect learners with the English-speaking community and broaden their knowledge not only of the language but the world as well.

Reactive: the language we study isn’t pre-selected or prescribed–on the contrary, my goal is to help you fill in gaps in your knowledge. This means we’re going to study aspects of the language (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation…) that are necessary to you.

Relevant: our discussions will typically revolve around your experiences and your views on the world. Also, the feedback I give you is based on your needs, wants and specific context.

I believe in teaching that is authentic, reactive, and relevant:

What I expect

from you

You’ll receive one asynchronous task each week to prepare for our lessons. These tasks may involve reading, watching, or exploring the material we’ll work on, and sometimes reflecting or trying out language beforehand. They are mandatory and part of the course workload, so please make sure to factor in this extra time—around 30 to 60 minutes per week.

Isabel Tomaselli

Taking classes with Bruna has been a real source of inspiration. Her well-structured, fluid lessons create a space for us to explore language critically and with curiosity, while also stepping back and rethinking our own assumptions about the topics she introduces.
Her methodology, along with her clear passion for language, has made a meaningful impact on my learning journey and on my work as a teacher. From her careful curation of authentic materials to the class documents we can refer back to, and from her attentive ear for emergent language to the tact she brings to every interaction, she turns theory into practice in a way that not only helps us learn but also reignites our love for the process of learning—and teaching—a second language.
